Who qualifies for WVRx medication?
  • You must be a West Virginia resident between the ages of 18 and 65.
  • You must meet income criteria as established by WVRx.
  • You must not be covered by any form of health insurance, including Medicaid, Medicare, WV-CHIPS, or Veteran's health benefits.
  • Your family's household income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level to qualify.

How does it work ?

  • You must show proof of household income from one of the following sources:
    • Payroll Stub
    • Copy of Unemployment Check
    • Social Security Determination Letter or copy of direct deposit
    • Worker’s Comp Letter or Proof of Determination
    • Tax Return Cover Sheet
    • Letter of employment layoff
  • Patient eligibility is determined annually. Patients may reapply each year for WVRx services.
  • WVRx requires a $30 application processing fee with each new or renewed application. This fee is an application fee. There is no charge for the medication. Fee waivers are available on a case-by-case basis only.

For eligibility, does household income include all family members or just the patient?
It includes all family members. The household must fall below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPL).

How does a patient get a prescription filled at no cost?
An approved WVRx patient must have a prescription written by a licensed provider, and mailed to WVRx with the application or have it faxed to the WVRx pharmacy at 304-414-5922.

If a patient has a question about their medication, who do they call?
Patients can call the WVRx pharmacist at our toll free number 1-866-389-1928 or the prescriber of the medication.

When should a patient call the pharmacy to get their prescription refilled?
Patients can call the WVRx pharmacy to refill their prescription ten days prior to their last pill.

How does a Health Care Provider and office staff use West Virginia Rx?
Health care providers can access the West Virginia Rx system via any Internet-enabled computer system!

How do you know your patient’s personal information safe and secure?
West Virginia Rx uses the latest Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. Upon registering in the Health Care Practitioner’s office, the patient receives a unique id number that links them to the West Virginia Rx pharmacy!
